The Chopping Block is proud to announce it’s fourth solo show, ‘Mummers & Demons’ – featuring the prolific outpourings of Oliver McConnie – culminating in a display inclusive of over 200 hand painted etchings, sketches, studies and abstractions.
Showcasing an expansive collection of work from the last twelve years, ‘Mummers and Demons’ offers to its viewers a retrospective glimpse into the chaotic imaginations of McConnie’s ongoing interest in ancient ideas that surround Heaven, Hell, the Devil and God.
McConnies imagery is grotesque, dissident and absurd – parades of horror unfold over macabre landscapes – illuminating narratives based around a corrupt modern world, in distinctly prehistoric settings. Mummers and Demons offers a visceral insight into an ongoing endeavor to cross-pollinate art, literature and archaic symbolism into interwoven narratives formed between works made within a period that spans a decade.
Displayed across the entirety of the galleries walls, Mummers and Demons confronts its viewers with an unconventional method of display, forcing an immersive interaction with the artists vast body of work.
