Forty7gallery+7coco are proud to present Oillages. Oillages it's a self-coined term
to describe the juxtaposition of paper-cuts on a surface painted with oil colours.
About
This is a time, in a particular society, where and when our ever increasing archive of images threatens to suffocate us unless we find some new approach or response to it. We may therefore need to, metaphorically or literally, ‘cut through’ the archive of images that has us trapped within it, enabling us to see a way out or forward, to find some future currently hidden by the ever-accumulating past.
A composite image, made of a chaos of dried paint (as left on a palette at the end of a painter’s day) and an old, found photographic image, repeatedly conspire in a tactile process that goes beyond its constituent elements to become ‘more than the sum of the parts’ which thus transmits a certain, mysterious satisfaction between artist and audience.
