OG2020 | OPERATION GUERNICA: ITALIAN ART AGAINST EDUCATIONAL POVERTY

About

CRIS CONTINI CONTEMPORARY SUPPORTS SAVE THE CHILDREN THROUGH CRISTIANO PETRUCCI’S PROJECT “OG2020”.

OPERATION GUERNICA 2020 (OG2020) has born from the need to actively contribute to the post-pandemic recovery, a project curated by Davide Sarchioni and supported by Cris Contini Contemporary Gallery.

OG2020 sees the artist Cristiano Petrucci reflecting on his role as an artist and on the social and cultural impact of his poetic research in being able to provide a reading of the present and the pandemic, prefiguring visions of a possible future. The title of the project draws inspiration from Pablo Picasso’s work "Guernica", painted to commemorate the bombing of the Basque town with the same name, which can be extended to any conflict and threat to humanity.

Cristiano Petrucci conceives a large group of works like cells of a complex organism. Each work consists of a hemispherical display case containing a composition that refers to the structure of a virus, and the chromatic variations of the LED lights amplify the perception of the slow change of a living and dynamic material. The exponential modularity with which the entire work was conceived emulates the pandemic spreading trend of the virus which generates an archipelago of virus-cells that symbolizes the historical memory of this difficult moment and the need to move forward in the construction of a new tomorrow.

The cultural value of the project is perfectly consistent with its charitable aspect. In fact, 25% of the proceeds from the sale of the works will be donated to support Save the Children’s campaign "Rewrite the Future", aimed at offering education, opportunities and hope to 100,000 children living in the most deprived contexts of the country, focusing on 30 cities and metropolitan areas. A project dedicated to children and teenagers from 0 to 17 years old in the most disadvantaged territories, in order to fight the "learning loss", poverty and support the return to school of all minors after the coronavirus emergency period.

The organization took action to the field immediately, right from the start of the great health and socio-economic emergency that hit Italy, to support the most vulnerable children and families, managing to reach over 60,000 people.
