Collaborative and individual works by Victor Leleca and James Roh.
About
‘Ocular Acupuncture’ tries to draw a parallel between acupuncture and painting. Victor Leleca and James Roh both come from cultures that value tradition and folklore, however create in the culture that above all values the scientific. They seem to question the boundaries between the logical and the emotional, between the scientific and the instinctual. Denying the hierarchies and the obsession with perfect lines, they immerse themselves in the exploration of the mixed worlds.
A collection of incrementally accumulated knowledge transformed into visual collection of colours and forms. Esoteric some might call it, but we know better than to dismiss centuries of assumptions, superstitions, preconceptions and rituals. Centuries upon centuries of wisdom attained through spiritual and natural inquisition of wellbeing.
Embracing the cultural differences. Flaws exist on all spectrums, whether we are talking about medicine, painting or politics. New assumptions and paths are found through trial and error, input and output, refinement and rejection. It is a joint effort to accentuate and transliterate the weirdness of perpetual mysteries.
Brushstrokes as pain relieving endorphins released by the inception of the needle. Healing the sore cultural areas through collaborative practice, conversation, trial and imitation. Trying to understand things holistically, taking into the account the surface and the depth, without denying the knowledge accumulated through centuries of failed trials and collective effort.
