About

Presenting Obsess(us) a group exhibition that explores ideas surrounding the consumption of oneself by one's own personal or interpersonal desires. Investigating what it means to obsess or be obsessed, these artists create a contorted beauty; whether this comes from a tension of absence, of boundaries, of sensory perception or even of identity. Each artist brings to the exhibition what they think of as their Obsess(us). Shared qualities and ideas in their work, such as social and self, body and space, physical and mental, reality and imagination, all play a part in each of the works. Some of the artists deal with ideas surrounding their identity, whether this be a placement in the world or with a more of an introspective approach, they open up a dialogue between the viewer and questions their own identity in turn. These boundaries that the individual and that society create are challenged both passively and actively. Other artists tackle obsession in other ways, one of which is through the senses. By creating serenity, a haunting or a sense of liberation one's unconscious and conscious become converged. The anxiety that obsession brings with it is present in all of the works, leading the viewer into a state of ambivalence and contemplation. The artworks engage the viewer into the consuming nature of this exhibition. Open 11th - 13th December, 12am - 6pm contact details: e-mail: sylvianicolaides@mail.com phone: +44 (0) 7 923 360 363
