Galeria Athena Contemporânea is pleased to inaugurate, on June 7 at 7pm, a solo exhibition by Rodrigo Bivar: Nada Pensa Nada (Nothing Thinks Nothing). The exhibition includes 11 new paintings.

About

The title is taken from a verse by Alberto Caeiro (Fernando Pessoa’s pen name) in The Keeper of Flocks: "What will this think of that? Nothing thinks nothing." For Bivar, if the writer says that "the intimate sense of things is that they have no intimate sense,' this makes us think that there would be no reason at all to write anything. "But by writing he gives mystery back to the world, makes the world a place that’s a little more confusing and less pragmatic or functional, and I would like my paintings to have that quality."

His abstract paintings, which took on a more rigorous tone starting with the Lapa series, now seem to radicalize the simplicity of the forms in a no less rigorous way.

Among other new developments in Bivar’s process, the artist has confronted the laborious act of removing the brush strokes from his paintings, leaving only structural vestiges on some of them. Sometimes rectangular shapes reveal only a few lines of color concealed by white, suggesting a specter of the painting that also merges with the energy of his craft. Bivar finds beauty in art that dares to speak of nothing, or everything.

(Brasília / DF, 1981) The artist graduated in Fine Arts from the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (São Paulo, SP). He won the Acquisition Prize from the Centro Cultural of São Paulo, in 2008, when he held his first solo exhibition as part of the institution's exhibition program. Since then, he has held solo exhibitions at Paço das Artes (São Paulo) and The Art Foundation of Ouro Preto (Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais), the Millan Gallery (São Paulo) and the Mariana Moura Gallery (Recife, PE). Since 2005 he has participated in group shows such as: State of the Art, at the Figueiredo Ferraz Institute (Ribeirão Preto), 2016; Pictorial Approximations at the Athena Contemporary Gallery (Rio de Janeiro), 2015; The SESC_Videobrasil International Festival of Contemporary Art (São Paulo), in 2011 and 2013; 7 SP - Seven Artists from São Paulo, at C.A.B Contemporary Art (Brussels, Belgium), 2012; MAM  Panorama of Brazilian Art (São Paulo), 2011; Contemplation of the World - Parallel 2010 (São Paulo); and Grau Zero (Zero Degree), at the MAM (São Paulo), 2009.
