I'm running a free all day drop-in workshop at Copeland Park, Peckham for kids and adults of all ages and abilities with support from The Brixton Remakery.

About

Its a great opportunity to make something physical, get your hands dirty working alongside other people and to be part of a bigger conversation about my 2016 Parade for Peckham project.

Imagine designing and making your own parade float... what would it say about you, individually or as a group? What message would you want to convey to the world? How would it feel to ride your own float, or too watch it gloriously sail by? Imagine surfing your own float, dressed in resplendent explosions of colour, bathed in pulsating music flanked by choreographed dance troupes.

As a celebration of all things collaborative and Carnival and in anticipation of a 2016 parade for Peckham, Peckham Truth Booth will be hosting a free day long drop in mini-parade float making workshop for all ages and abilities in the heart of Copeland Park.

Starting with an informal discussion, you will move into brainstorming and designing floats alongside experienced artists, makers and fabricators. With an emphasis on hands on making using simple tools and techniques, we will respond to and assortment of materials, fabric and paints provided by the Brixton Remakery and the Work and Play Scrapstore to make micro carnival floats festooned with banners, flags, sculptures, decorations, model dancers, carnival queens / kings and characters.

Upon completing as many floats as possible, we will join them together to make a carnival land train to be taken on a tour through the Multi Story Car-Park as part James next workshop on Sept 12th 'MULTI STORY GLORY'.

Project info:
Peckham Truth Booth is part of a Parade for Peckham research project by the artist Adam James in association with MOCA London. Throughout the summer, James will host a number of artist led events exploring themes relating to ‘truth’ and group engagement as means to unleash collective unconscious.

This event is supported through Arts Council England grants for the arts in partnership with The Nines, Sustrans, Southwark Council, Peckham Vision and Copeland Park.
