About
There's enough reality already, without artists making more of it for us to consume for pity's sake! With this in mind, four of East London's emerging artists set out to create this exhibition of carefully produced work, so abstract and ambiguous in nature that it has no visual reference to, or equivalent in reality, hence the title.
The paradox is that they are all dedicated makers of sculpture, painting and printmaking, so cannot help but contribute by bringing Art objects into our reality. Their work begins as a way to respond to the human condition in one way or another, after all, there is a definitely abstract aspect to being human. We all swim in a tide of ideas and attitudes, conditioning and inheritance, concepts and feelings that have no apparent manifestation in our visual reality. At this show, there is work dealing with mathematical theories and other things of the mind like transcendence and telekinesis to states of emotionality, spiritual awareness and sensitivity, through to anxiety, bodily awareness and social unease.
Each of the artists strives in their own way to achieve an aesthetic beauty in their work, this ties their work together and gives the exhibition another level of coherence. Objects and paintings of mystery and beauty are to be found on show here, nestled and hidden in the corners and enclosed spaces to be found in this most unusual art space attached to a working fine art metal workshop.
