About
A recent casting by acclaimed New York City artist John Ahearn of contemporary artist, activist, and film producer, Zoe Map acts as the catalyst for the exhibitions concept, linking generations of artists within New York’s alternative and underground culture. Through the collaboration of these two artists this exhibition is made possible, bridging the pioneers of the New York underground with the emerging counterculture of the present day.The title of the show takes its name from the common expression of something being “in vogue”. To be “in vogue” means to be in fashion, trending, and popular. However prior to the rise, and popularity of any art form, idea, or creative act, it must first come out of the darkness where it is not understood by the status quo. All newness in trends and common knowledge originates in a place of misunderstanding, and disenfranchised thought. What begins in solitude amongst the initiated few eventually emanates into the culture of worldwide acceptance and acclaim. This exhibition acts as a celebration of New York’s reputation of being at the forefront of creative action throughout the decades.
