The flosting sculptures represent imaginary beings which have passed from this world; they retain their consciousness but are not happy as they lack agency; they cannot feel the touch of another, have a good meal or even feel the warmth of the sun on their backs. Instead they remember their time on earth with wistfulness and longing.

“Much of my art stems from my conviction that this life is all we have and that when we die our consciousness is lost,” McDougall said, “this particular work is my attempt to convince myself that mortality is actually for the best.”
