Painting by Tim Benson VPROI
Benson’s painting North Sea Sunrise seems to be a painting about paint. Teetering on the brink of abstraction, we can see each brush stroke, each applying a different colour to the surface, but we can also see the clouds lifting, the sun rising and their reflection in a calm sea.
About
Benson’s painting North Sea Sunrise seems to be a painting about paint. Teetering on the brink of abstraction, we can see each brush stroke, each applying a different colour to the surface, but we can also see the clouds lifting, the sun rising and their reflection in a calm sea.
Benson uses a single brush for each painting, increasing or reducing the size of the brush depending on the size of the canvas. This technique makes them intriguing to reproduce for exhibition on the London Arts Board, the brush strokes do not give away the original scale of the painting.
Benson is a well respected Portrait Painter, Vice President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and teaches at the Heatherley School of Fine Art.
He studied at Glasgow School of Art and Byam Shaw School of Art.
You can see more of his work here: http://timbenson.co.uk/
He is also showing work at Mall Galleries from 10th to 21st December as part of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition.
You can view the exhibition on the London Arts Board website: http://londonartsboard.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/north-sea-sunrise.html
Or in person on the corner of Vestry Road and Peckham Road.
