About

North & South: not only an unsuccessful 90s boyband but also our culmination of cultural contrasts. FRIDAY 20th July: Rio Occupation will see 30 ground-breaking Rio artists occupy the vibrant streets, squares and stages of London, and 2 of them are coming to The Brick Box to create exciting new work. Ratao Diniz is a brilliant young photographer. His work focuses on the favelas in Rio and explores the other side of that community to people. The positive, the hidden from the everyday, the real stories. He will be creating London/Rio postcards mixing the images of the periphery of both cities, and photographically documenting the process of London graffiti artists to form a dialogue with Rio Grafiteiros. Pedro Rivera will bring us his insightful and interactive exhibition X Marks the Spot; this explores the globalized city and how places are re-signified as 'The Olympic City.' As a trained architect he will create a giant X out of improvised street stalls manned by 30 artists. In exchange for Brazilian gifts and trinkets, spectators will be asked to share their ideas about London 2012 and Rio 2016. The summer is here and the Brazilians are coming! SATURDAY 21st July: From Spice to Ice ... The Peskimos will create a cool contrast with their ingenious Inuit performance. In collaboration with our local purveyor of fine fish - Dagon's Fishmongers of Brixton Village, we will be creating a frosty fun house to host The Peskimos performative installations. Get energized in our SAD Light Room, exchange body heat beneath our snow machine whilst enjoying the Waiting for the Fish installation, mingle with the ice shaving Peskimo. Why go on a disappointing day trip to a trout farm when you can snuggle up in our Winter Wonderland? (Thermal long johns: optional.) Now don't be a frigid little tease; keep these dates free and let us reel you in! Make mine a frozen Margarita! Entry is £5 (this is necessary to cover the costs of hiring security and bar staff.)
