The Flat - Massimo Carasi gallery is proud to host in its spaces the first European personal exhibition of the Kurdish-Iranian artist Hiva Alizadeh.
Alizadeh (born in Kerman in 1989) began his career following the path of his experimental filmmaking father. Since then, Hiva has achieved a more synthesized and personal form of expression that combines new media inspired by the decorative tradition of carpet weaving, typical of its region.
The morphology of the Iranian landscape and the frequent visits of the artist to isolated areas of the country push Alizadeh to reproduce and reinterpret the colors of nature, using vibrant layers of multicolored synthetic hair.
Another fundamental source of inspiration for this artist is the stained glass windows of the Persian mosques and the projections of the light reflections that stand out on the floor.
Many other elements create a complex imaginary of bright compositions, equipped with a sophisticated coloristic weave. The vaporous strands of synthetic hair overlap and intersect, generating rhythms and voices that echo the nomadic songs that the artist loves to listen to.
Self-trained film-maker/artist Alizadeh started his career writing and directing experimental films and documentaries before shifting his focus to the creation of sculptural (hair) works and installations. His work has been exhibited at numerous Iranian galleries and debuted internationally at the 2018 Bienvenue Art Fair in Paris, France.
