Join us in celebrating the unveiling of Begum's new site-specific, outdoor installation; No. 1104 Catching Colour, created for London City Island.

About

Exclusively for the launch, The Line has collaborated with English National Ballet to produce a new five-minute performance, responding to Rana Begum’s work. Choreographed by ENB’s critically acclaimed Associate Choreographer, Stina Quagebeur, the piece will be performed live outdoors in Botanic Square, London City Island. The two dancers will be dressed by Begum’s long-time collaborator, designer Roksanda Ilinčić.

Performances take place at 12pm and 2pm. Places are limited and booking is essential: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/catching-colour-by-rana-begum-launches-at-london-city-island-tickets-293779340917

About Catching Colour:

Catching Colour is an exciting new addition to the works by 19 leading contemporary artists to be found on The Line, London’s first dedicated public art walk. Catching Colour extends the route, which runs from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to The O2, to include London City Island for the first time. Supported by Arts Council England, Catching Colour will be complemented by a creative engagement programme for local schools and communities, curated and delivered by The Line in association with English National Ballet and Akademi – a cutting edge organisation working to enhance understanding and appreciation of South Asian dance in the UK.

About The Line:

Co-founded by Megan Piper and the late regeneration expert, Clive Dutton OBE, The Line is London’s first dedicated public art walk; an outstanding, free outdoor art gallery, following the waterways and line of the Greenwich Meridian. The 3-mile route passes through Newham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich and now features work by artists including Gary Hume, Thomas J Price, Tracey Emin and Virginia Overton – as well as a number of pre-existing works along the route, including Antony Gormley’s Quantum Cloud and Richard Wilson’s A Slice of Reality.

More information about London City Island:

London City Island comprises 1,706 new homes set on an island of 12 acres, with independent artisan restaurants, shops, creative hubs and al fresco spaces. The development takes its inspiration from the area’s maritime heritage, with bold primary colours and making use of its waterside surroundings with river walkways. Additionally, all Island residents will become members of the City Island Arts Club, the island’s own private residents’ club which includes a striking outdoor heated red swimming pool of bright, gym and residents lounge. Phase One, developed by Ballymore, is now complete and fully occupied. For Phase Two by EcoWorld Ballymore, the final apartments are now finished, with just townhouses left to complete.
