A screening of London-based artist-filmmaker Ayo Akingbade’s social housing trilogy No News Today, including the premiere of Dear Babylon (2019).
About
Dear Babylon completes Akingbade’s loose trilogy of films looking at the changes in social housing in London. Set in London's East End and combining newly recorded and archival footage, the film’s narrative centres on a trio of art students eager to raise awareness about their neighbourhood, especially the lives of the tenants and people who work on their estate. Combining fact and fiction, the film captures the lives of individuals facing dramatic social change.
Dear Babylon screens alongside Street 66 (2018), Akingbade’s profile of the late Dora Boatemah, a Ghanaian housing activist from South London, and the first film in the trilogy, Tower XYZ (2016).
