About
Nicole Vinokur’s interdisciplinary, research based and site sensitive practice intricately layers historical and cultural references together with process and forms of performative sculpture. Her work is occupied with the agency of appearing or ‘coming into sight’ and frequently points to the interplay between rarity and ubiquity through the use of imitation, doubling and rearrangement.
Nicole Vinokur (b. 1978, Johannesburg, RSA) lives and works in London. Her work has been shown internationally, including Camden Arts Centre, London; Modern Art Projects, Cape Town; Godart Gallery, Johannesburg; Tintype Gallery, London; Bosse & Baum, London; Caustic Coastal, Manchester; and The 50th Venice Biennale, Venice. Recent awards include Queen’s Park Commission, Blackpool (2016/17), Red Mansion Prize (2015) and the Artist/Curator Fellowship with Grizedale Arts (2014). Vinokur received an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2015.
