Artist Andrew Hood shows his latest collection of paintings inspired by his travels
About
Sarah Wiseman Gallery is thrilled to present a new series of paintings by acclaimed and highly sought-after artist Andrew Hood. Based at Jamaica Street studios in Bristol, Andrew Hood has worked with Sarah Wiseman Gallery for many years, establishing a firm relationship and collector base. He will show a series of recent paintings throughout June.
Making several trips abroad each year, Andrew’s paintings are born from detailed, lively location sketches. Andrew builds a sense of movement and atmosphere in his work through expressive mark making and mixed media. It is his aim for the viewer to see beyond a picturesque location as he captures an elemental energy of time and place.
To do this he will often seek out a high-up view point in order to see the liveliness of a particular place, observing the hum of the people, traffic and changing light. Back in the studio, working from his gathered drawings, Andrew will surround himself with paint, and by quickly pouring, scraping marks on the canvas, he builds a painting that is like his sketches, vibrant and alive with movement.
Andrew Hood studied at Liverpool John Moors University, and is now based in Bristol. His work is exhibited around the UK and is found in many private collections.
