About

Private View: Friday 3rd of June 2011 — 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm Exhibition runs from: Friday 3rd of June — Sunday 5th of June 2011 Gallery Opening Hours: Fri: 11.00 am to 6.00 pm - Sat: 12.30pm - 5.00 pm Last day of Exhibition: Sunday 5th of June: 11.00 am to 5.00 pm ‘New Matter' is a celebration of art, writing and music which has been created in response to a short story written by Lorna Festa, a Sheffield Masters student, originally from the US. ‘Déja vous' an emotional and contemporary piece which has formed excitement around the author's name and anticipation for her recently completed novel ‘Killer and the Crooks'. ‘Déja vous' has acted as a catalyst for London and Sheffield based artists who have created and original work for the purpose of this exhibition. ‘New Matter' is a group comprised of undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals honouring a range of disciplines and interests'. The artists involved have studied at different Universities including Wimbledon, Sheffield Hallam, Middlesex, and Central Saint Martins. Although their personal work transcends themes and contrasting styles ‘Déja vous' has enabled all the artists to articulate an appreciation and understanding for literature; through literal, philosophical or psychological interpretations. The exhibition includes recorded and live readings, painting, video and performance providing an experience that appeals in all creative outlooks by artists which are are part of a bold, contemporary culture that invites fierce opinion. ‘New Matter' is a festival of artistic indulgence aiming to to show the enjoyment of art and literature often go hand in hand.
