New Firmament presents new and reworked music for soloist, Nick Podgurski, and his ensemble, Feast of the Epiphany. The members of Feast of the Epiphanyhave served as an integral connection among a broad variety of artists in New York’s music and art communities. Composer and multi-instrumentalist Nick Podgurski plays drums in the acclaimed doom-improv trio GRID, composes ambient keyboard music as New Firmament, and spent years as a member of avant rockers Extra Life. Guitarist Andrew Smiley performs solo and as guitarist of Little Women, Chris Pitsiokos Quartet, Bloor, and Empyrean Atlas. Multi-instrumentalist Caley Monahon-Ward (ex-Extra Life, Voice Coils) has contributed work to such collaborators as: Xiu Xiu, Liturgy, Snowblink, Erica Eso, ICE Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound. Tony Gedrich is bassist of the aggressive, progressive rock trio STATS.

For this show, Feast of the Epiphany, will perform adaptations of the new recording Practicing Loss (out September 13, 2019 on Kincsem Records) arranged specially for the evening; and Nick Podgurski premieres new work for solo keyboard instrument.

New Firmament is an institute working in the service of the furtherance of balance. It’s work extends across the fields of education, research, curation, and composition. It serves as umbrella for: NF live series presented in conjunction with Title:Point Theatre, a regular music playlist now in its sixth year, record label, blog, and home for educational workshops usually involving music/sound. Nick Podgurski is sole operator for the moment.

Other collaborators of the ensemble, Feast of the Epiphany, include Travis Laplante, Charlie Looker, and Mick Barr. Members of Feast of the Epiphany have performed at Primavera Sound, Moers Festival, Bad Bonn, Ville e Sonique, FIMAV Victoriaville, Sound Forest, International Jazz Festival Saalfelden, Rumor Festival, Jazz Em Agosto and lectured at The University of Alabama and The University of Chicago Center in Paris.
