Neukölln Stories is the continuation of an ongoing series of projects by nomadicArt that works with the relationship between people and their urban surroundings. Through a combination of qualitative methods and artistic practice/intervention, these projects aim to materialize moments of reflection about the relationship between people and their urban surroundings and create opportunities for exchange.
As part of this project, we invited Neukölln artists to work with us and to collect knowledge about these places through artistic interventions. This exhibition shows the works of 7 selected Neukölln-based artists, all of whom have created an artwork (with different media) in relation to a shop of their choice. Each artist was associated with a particular business and developed a piece of art based on their exploration, experience and knowledge of that place. With the decision to work with artists who live or work in Neukölln, we express our motivation to support the local artistic network and to create new opportunities to connect artists with their neighborhood and its residents through artistic means.
