About

The show will mark an important stage of Nelio Sonego's pictorial cycle, in which a strong desire of spatiality emerges. From the outset, the artist's work has been described as a conscious and coherent meditation through images on painting, meaning an open exploration of the potential of the ‘sign', a focal element for the construction of a visual language. Through the use of spray, Sonego's creation of paintings materialises by physical occurrence in concrete images of portions of his mental space-time; images of coloured geometric routes that fluctuate in the void of the canvas. Deprived of a certain and necessarily limiting directionality, the artist's work becomes the possible creator of its own continuous and mutable coming into being and its manifestations. The works on show at muse@EIGHT are rectangles with lines of refined, vivid colours that form varied layers and expand indifferently along vertical or horizontal directives in search of a strong relationship with coming into being. They are directionless ‘signs', like total painting in its reference to an inner profundity closely linked to man and the cosmos. The fluctuating metamorphoses resulting from the superimposition and intersection of the lines with their contrasting colours drawn by Sonego refer to the expansion in all directions of the infinite regarded as coming into being, in the depths of our conscience, of the unknown that is our being. Thus the artist's works engage in a dialogue with the exhibition space creating a total experience and a desire for involvement not limited to a discourse of proportional nature but orienting it towards the creation of a spatiality of the work, which offers itself without interruption with regard to the spatiality of existence as a possibility of a concrete, physical approach to the extreme limit of knowledge. Artist in residence: Poetry and art books Attached to the show, the artist will host a poetry workshop (Wed 20 April) where poets will be invited to write poems inspired by the artist's works, which will be then collated in a handmade edition of artist's books
