Neither One Thing or Another brings together two new films from 2017 Jerwood/FVU Awards winners Patrick Hough and Lawrence Lek. Artificial intelligence and Hollywood props take centre stage in these newly commissioned films by Jerwood/FVU Awards winners Patrick Hough and Lawrence Lek.

About

These ambitious films employ pioneering technologies to examine the steadily blurring line between the real and the artificial. In Geomancer, Lek harnesses his trademark – the building blocks of computer gaming technology – to set the stage for an awakening of artificial intelligence. Hough’s work And If In A Thousand Years takes us to the Californian desert, where the landscape was filmed and digitally scanned using LiDAR, to host a Hollywood-inspired merging of authenticity and replica. Both films delve between definitions of consciousness, and in the process invite us to look again at what we think we know and see. This screening will include a talk by artist Patrick Hough about the making of his work. Patrick Hough and Lawrence Lek are the recipients of the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2017. Each has received £20,000 to develop these significant new moving-image works with full production support from FVU. Running time: 1hr + intro. Suitable for ages 18+
