DIVUS London are proud to present MDF Paintings, a solo exhibition by London based artist Neil Zakiewicz.
Zakiewicz's new series of paintings come through minimalist abstraction, via furniture design and interior decorating. MDF panels of different sizes have been spray painted, using cellulose furniture sprayer's paint. The panels are joined by hinges, with one panel used as spray template for the other. Both template panel and back panel are shown, revealing the process of the production of the painting. Shadowing and horizon effects, caused by a gap between the two panels during spraying, softens the otherwise mechanical and hard-edged appearance of rectangles and circles. There is also an illusion of movement and perspective created by this blurring of the edges and blending of colours.
Neil Zakiewicz has exhibited frequently in the UK and abroad over the past 10 years. He graduated from Goldsmiths College in 2003 and is a mixed media artist, having previously made foam sculptures, photography and public sculpture. His previous solo exhibition at Sugarhouse Studios, London took place in 2012.
