Green Cardamom presents 'Interior Renovations, Tehran, 2010'

About

Ansarinia's solo exhibition at Green Cardamom shows three bodies of work. The most recent, 'Mendings', investigates the emotional absence that is left after experiencing a momentous event which is then manifested in a domestic setting. She takes ordinary household objects, a chair or a mirror and removes a slice before fitting them back together, rendering them into charged objects -- fears and desires are subsumed by the carpets, furniture and decoration of the domestic setting which, when altered, take on a new psychological weight. In 'Non-flammable, Non-stick, Non-stain', Ansarinia manipulates the decorative language of cheap table-cloths or sofreh to reflect coded statistical data on the daily price index in Iran, offering a comment on the deteriorating social-economic conditions. The 'Patterns' series is the latest development in her ongoing project, updating motifs used in the traditional Persian carpet with imagery from contemporary Iran, offering a glimpse of routines and everyday life in Tehran.
