'Nazar - evil eye, luck, point of view' is a solo art exhibition by Indian born, London based artist Anjali B Purkayastha.
About
Growing up in India, the evil eye was an unspoken part of my life. The little black dot put instinctively by mothers on their little ones or the mask hanging outside new homes - all done to protect from “buri nazar” (evil eye) or bad luck.
This series is inspired by the concept of evil eye and explores the symbolisms instead of reflecting on the belief itself.
The black dot, the eyes and different symbols to ward off evil act as the central visual theme.
I encourage viewers to use this opportunity to discuss and explore how beliefs find their way into our lives without us knowing and how the same belief can exist in different forms in other cultures.
Anjali is a self-taught artist & illustrator, based in London.
