Navel Seakamela is a rising star on the South African art scene and presented for the first time in France by Bonne Espérance Gallery.

About

Navel's mysterious paintings explore wide-ranging themes of gender roles, masculinity, fear, strength, the importance of belonging and the beauty of black bodies.  Navel plays with perceptions of blackness, with the darkness of skin exaggerated and oversized red lips.  For Navel Seakamela, people are flowers. Born in 1991 and based in Johannesburg, Navel is an artist to watch.
