Nature - The Essence

Nature teaches us that diversity is the force that perpetuates life. 

The exhibition brings together  the works of three artists: Nicolai Abramov,  John Bischoff and Will Smith, who have explored their relationship with Nature and interpreted and represented it in their own way.

Nicolai Abramov (1930-1997) a Russian artist from an earlier generation, represented Nature with realism, but always acknowledging  the language of paint itself, giving voice/expression to the matter, which has its own right to exist and tell its story.  

John Bischoff’s paintings draw upon the emotional impact of Nature on him, where abstract coloured shapes,  patterns and the matter of paint itself contribute to conjure up a hidden world. A world that is present in the psyche: the fear of rejection, the power of attraction; the constant balancing that seeks to find harmony from destructed forms; constantly entwining their intricate patterns as brambles and clematis weave their canvas to conquer land. He was inspired by the observation of  the carving power of the wind, water, earth orchestrated together by Time, the great conductor, sculpting the rocks which are randomly scattered on the hills and revealing the creativity of Nature. 

Will Smith’s paintings can also suggest natural forms: bacteria, (benign and malign), seeds, cells, plasma, membrane, diagrammatic or photographic, representational and abstract. They can represent characters of a narrative that follows sequentially or captured at one instant. Characters that relate to one another, whether they be figurative or abstract or that relate to the viewer directly.
