NATURAL SELECTION is an international queer artist residency bringing together 7 artists from 5 countries in a living exhibition that crystallizes a space for queer art in evolutionary flux that invites the audience to inhabit a temporal dark continent of aberrant metamorphosing identities.

About

The curatorial framework of NATURAL SELECTION: ABERRANT RESYNTHESIS draws on the extended evolutionary synthesis, an integrated evolutionary framework that extends traditional evolutionary theory by identifying a broader set of causes organisms develop that shapes the direction and rate of their evolution. Just as the knowledge of how organisms develop and interact with their environment help scientists account for the diversity of life, the artists at this unique residency are engaged in interactive, collaborative and experimental artistic explorations that seek to challenge proposed gender meta-narratives by reconstructing the boundaries between the ‘performed’ self and the fluidity of free expression. The queer interactions that take place over the course of this open residency and exhibition are themselves processes of adaptation and catalysts for exploring new queer codes of looking and art-making.
