About

Rosalind Nashashibi (b. 1973, UK) and Lucy Skaer (b. 1975, UK) work as independent artists but have been collaborating as Nashashibi/Skaer since 2005. Their joint work consists mainly of 16mm films that touch upon a range of contemporary concerns using art, artists and the people and places that interest them.

‘Why Are You Angry?’, their most recent film project, investigates the way in which Paul Gauguin portrays Polynesian women. The film premiered at Documenta 14 (2017) and was part of their retrospective exhibition at Tate St. Ives (2018). In the exhibition for S.M.A.K., Nashashibi/Skaer show new and existing work, both from their individual and their collaborative practice.
