Wilma Johnson has been the painter Ive most admired of my generation. I met her at St Martins and together we partied and painted through the 80's. She consistantly comes up with paintings full of mythic tales, that stir the memories of shadows and light of life past and future. Her humour tiptoeing around the edges. She has appeared in Derek Jarman videos of her Neo Naturist Activities, body painted in the recent BBC How we made Art , shes danced on the stage of the royal opera Hse with Leigh Bowery, drank in the Colony with the YBA's  and hunted iguanas in Mexico and fished with icelandic fishermen. Wilma is not a career artist. shes lived the life of an artist from the 1930's think Lee Miller /Leonora Carrington /Frieda Kahlo.  Her paintings are receipts from her living.
