Figurative solo show by John Gathercole. Live private view broadcast on Lockdown Gallery facebook page with commentary by the artist at 6pm on 23rd April.
About
Naked Bunch is a solo exhibition featuring a selection of figurative works by John Gathercole. The show takes its name from a play on the title of William Burroughs iconic book Naked Lunch.
The book is structured as a series of loosely connected vignettes. Burroughs stated that the chapters are intended to be read in any order as are the painting in this exhibition.
Burroughs said, "The title means exactly what the words say: NAKED Lunch—a frozen moment when everyone sees what is on the end of every fork composed of the dead flesh. The lunch is symbolic of the decay and waste present in daily life.
This can also be applied to the content and symbolisms of the paintings selected.
The works range from over a number of years of detailed investigation and analysis of the figure and human condition and even include a very rare ceramic sculpture.
Two of the paintings come with an accompaning text by Daniel Tremor, which were inspired by Naked Junk genre novels, and will be read at the private view broadcast.
