About

The "Munich 72" project is delighted to present our "Fashion, People and Music" exhibition. A tapestry of items, both visionary and provocative, from our own collections will be showcased against the backdrop of recently collected memorabilia and previously untold stories. Our Fashion Collection holds celebrated creations by French couturier André Courrèges, the man who revolutionized the fashion world with his futuristic style. Indeed, he designed the official staff uniforms for the Munich Games. Otl Aicher then provided a contrasting dash of local color for the hostess outfits, by choosing tones reminiscent of the Alps. The Games, by adopting this bright and unconventional look, saw themselves as a trendsetter at the forefront of fashion and lifestyle. Their cultural program also set new standards with its democratic, participatory approach. EXOTICA, a controversial work by German-Argentine composer Mauricio Kagel, was commissioned especially for the Games. Some 60 instruments from our Music Collection took pride of place at its premiere. The exhibition explores this musical work and offers our visitors the opportunity to revisit it and explore intercultural issues.
