Mustafa Boga presents new embroidery work in his solo exhibition Wild Flowers
About
Mustafa Boga works across a range of different mediums including textile, video, photography and installation. His works examine the differences between art and documentary and how contemporary multi-media manipulates our understanding of current affairs. His work is a way of narrating his background both emotionally and culturally, dealing with topics such as gender, national identity, militarism, masculinity and sexuality. Combining images of current affairs with recollected personal memories, Boga seeks inspiration in his family history, childhood memories and personal experiences.
Mustafa Boga is a multidisciplinary artist based in the UK and Turkey. He completed his masters degree in 2016 from Central Saint Martins in London after studying for an MA in Fine Art. He achieved a BA from Istanbul University at the Faculty of Communication and Journalism.
He has won several awards including The Red Mansion Art Prize and was selected as ‘Highly Commended Artist’ at the Ashurt Emerging Artist Prize. He was a fellow at RAW Material Company in Senegal and recently took part in ThirdBase residency in Lisbon. In 2021 he won the Bilsart Video Art competition that followed by his first institutional solo show at Bilsart in Istanbul.
The exhibition is curated by Helena Aðalsteinsdóttir.
