Luke Jerram's stunning Museum of the Moon comes to Peterborough
About
As part of Vivacity’s Without Walls programme, the stunning Museum of The Moon is coming to Peterborough Cathedral from the evening of the 5th October until 14th October.
Museum of the Moon is a new touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surrounds sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
To kick things off, Museum of the Moon will launch with a special evening performance of Sufi:Zen by Akademi in the Cathedral grounds. With the dramatic backdrop of the Gothic building, the night sky will come alive with fluid movement, flowing garments, vivid face paint and a spectacular fire display. Leading up to this there will be a mesmerising dance performance of Orbis by Humanhood taking you way beyond planet Earth.
There will be a further programme of lunar inspired activities and community events beneath the moon during it’s time in Peterborough. More details on the events and opening times can be found on Vivacity’s website and the page will be updated as further activities are confirmed.
The Museum of the Moon is being brought to Peterborough with the support of Without Walls of which Vivacity is an Associate Touring Network partner. The Associate Touring Network is a group of festival partners who work together to support the onward touring of work commissioned by Without Walls across England to diverse audiences in areas of low engagement with the arts.
Luke Jerram’s multidisciplinary practice involves the creation of sculptures, installations and live arts projects. Living in the UK but working internationally for 19 years, Jerram has created a number of extraordinary art projects which have excited and inspired people around the globe. Jerram has a set of different narratives that make up his practice which are developing in parallel with one another. He is known worldwide for his large scale public artworks.
