ART EXHIBITION

About

I have chosen Mambo Jumbo as the exhibition's name, being inspired by the English expression mumbo jumbo which according to an online source about Urban language, denotes a confusing or meaningless subject and it is often used as humorous expression of criticism of middle-management and civil service non-speak.

Furthermore, there is a Spanish band from Barcelona called: Los mambo Jambo that plays vintage rockabilly music which sounds as quirky and cinematic as my artwork looks like. I believe that my artwork is very quirky, musical and cinematic and with the use of mixed media, bright colours and adornments it can be potentially considered as Kitsch art too.

About the artwork subjects, I like to represent tarot archetypes, floating abstract meaningless figures, powerful female figures and nature elements like for example, plant leaves. I also enjoy distorting the forms and taking them to a more personal aesthetic.

I believe that even though the artwork is bold, not academically friendly, intuitive and potentially kitsch, the work yet requires a lot of creative flow, processes and introspection.
I enjoy the use of bright and bold colours as they express my Latino background.

I was brought up by an Italian/Argentine family that was loud, outspoken and that enjoyed decorating the house with bright coloured fabrics, souvenirs and superstitious figures.

The aim of this exhibition is to present my artwork which is personal to people who enjoys the vibrancy of bold colours and to Croydon which reminds me a bit of home with it's vibrant, loud and colourful people.
