An exciting exhibition of new work by up and coming North East artist Edmund Francis, featuring new commissions made specifically for Durham Art Gallery.
Francis' work examines and re-presents the manufacture object.
Making use of scale, material changes of physical alteration the scuplture engage with the processes of the design industry to question attitudes to our surroundings, fashions and taste.
Using typical everyday objects as a starting point the sculptures shift attention from their use to their appearance or vice versa. They examine design and the act of production as well as the end result.
Both critical and celebratory, Francis' work owes much to industrial or commercial design, fashion and consumer trends.
Join us for a FREE preview event on Friday 14 September from 6pm when the gallery and museum will stay open late with live music and a pay bar.
