Barbara Rachko's BOLIVIANOS
Barbara Rachko is an American visual artist known for her unique and striking style of contemporary figurative art. Her artwork is primarily characterized by the use of pastels and colored pencils to create intricate and vibrant compositions. What sets her apart and makes her artworks unique are several distinctive features:
SYMBOLISM
Her series titled „Bolivianos“ refer to cultural expression in the Andean region of Bolivia. The masks often feature animals, plants, and natural elements, symbolizing the Andean people's close relationship with nature. These masks may convey messages about the importance of environmental conservation and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
STORYTELLING
The masks and many other of Rachko's works incorporate a narrative or storytelling element, using symbolism and surreal elements to convey deeper meanings or emotions within her compositions.
STIMULATING
The current exhibition is the perfect space to invite viewers to interpret and engage with the stories they tell, making them not just visually captivating but intellectually stimulating as well.
Nevertheless, Rachko's artworks are deeply personal, exploring themes related to her own experiences and emotions. She has been known to address themes like identity, relationships, and the human search for meaning in her work.
Barbara Rachko's chosen mediums, pastels, and colored pencils, are unconventional for creating detailed and vibrant figurative art. She employs a layering technique where she builds up multiple layers of colors, blending and smudging to achieve a rich and textured surface. This meticulous approach results in a painterly quality that is not typically associated with pastels and colored pencils.
SENSE OF DRAMA
Rachko's use of color is vibrant and intense. She combines bold and contrasting colors to create a sense of drama and emotion in her works. The colors she chooses play a crucial role in conveying the mood and atmosphere of each piece. Her layering technique and attention to detail create a tactile quality in her artworks. Viewers can see and almost feel the textures of the subjects and backgrounds, adding depth and dimension to her pieces.
SIGNATURE
Barbara Rachko's art is a fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, blending classical figurative subjects with innovative techniques and personal storytelling. Her dedication to her craft, her unique use of mediums, and her ability to evoke emotion and intrigue in her viewers are what make her artworks stand out in the world of contemporary figurative art.
