Join LONDON DRAWING GROUP for our first ever printmaking COURSE! Based on the work of the iconic Fauvist Artist Henri Matisse, students will be guided through three weeks of in-depth printmaking training with Drypoint, Monoprinting and Chine Colle.
Workshops can also be booked as one offs!
About
Make your own Matisse masterpieces with LDG’s printmaking course! Suitable for all levels, you can choose to do one or two day classes or treat yourself to all three.
Known for both his use of exquisite colour and fabulously fluid drawing style, we will be taking Matisse’s expressive draughtsmanship, painting and collaged work to inspire and develop exciting ways of print making. Each class will focus on a different printing technique - DRYPOINT, MONOTYPE and CHINE-COLLÉ (a fancy word for adding paper collage, colour and texture to your print).
WEEK 1
In MONOPRINTING MATISSE: Drawing from Life, we will be focussing on Drypoint. Drypoint is a printmaking technique in which an image is scratched into a plate with a hard-pointed "needle" of sharp metal. Drypoint is very much like drawing, except, when inked, can be printed from again and again.

WEEK 2
In MONOPRINTING MATISSE: Printing Painting, we will be taking your favourite Matisse paintings and transforming them into Monotypes - This is an extremely exciting process with which beautiful and painterly markmaking is transferred from an inked surface onto paper. For this class you will be shown a variety of ways of applying ink to a plate, experimenting with different implements to see how they create different textures and how they transfer onto paper. Monotypes are unique, one-off prints.

WEEK 3
In MONOPRINTING MATISSE: The Cut-Outs, we will be taking your favourite Matisse collages and using them to create prints with a special printmaking technique called Chine-collé, in which an image is transferred onto a thin, colour paper that is bonded to a heavier backing paper. During this day class you will be shown exciting ways of adding collage, colour and texture to your printed work.
