New exhibition exploring concepts of wealth, idolatry, and consumerism

On the 18th November visitors are invited to Leontia Gallery at 94 Leonard Street, Shoreditch EC2A 4RH, to explore groundbreaking new works from international artists exploring themes of wealth, consumerism and idolatry through neon, photography, painting and printmaking.

Highlights of the exhibition include Dan Tague whose internationally acclaimed currency series will be on display, his photographs of folded bank notes displaying strong written statements like “Momma Tried”, with a picture of the Queen strike a chord with Britain’s shaky Brexit future. These pieces are a hybrid of sculpture, photography and found art. Tague is an internationally acclaimed artist and is has work in permanent collections such as the Whitney Museum. He has also recently been commissioned by Children In Need to create works, which will be on display throughout London.

Also showing will be Louis-Nicolas Darbon who will be showing pieces from his Chanel series, larger than life paintings of black and neon dripping Chanel bottles, his work crosses fashion boundaries and wryly ask is this what society really wants?

British artist and animal lover and activist Louise McNaught will also be showing a savage piece highlighting the horrors of Trophy Hunting. McNaught is a leading British artist whose work highlights endangered species and environmental change; she has shown at leading galleries throughout the UK and has international representation.

Pioneering female neon artist Rebecca Mason will also be showing a provocative piece entitled “Money Talks: Undersharing”, with the first line in the work being “I am power”.  Rebecca has shown alongside international art stars Tracey Emin and Gavin Turk. Rebecca is one of the few female artists who manufactures her own neon.

Highly collectible Schoony whose collectors include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be showing his newest piece made using the latest technology 3D scanning presenting “Bruiser” a proud child boxer, the perfect follow-up to his world renowned “Boy Soldier” piece.

Also introducing Dutch Artist Roberto Voorbij whose designer sick bags will be on display, his Chanel and Louis Vuitton sick bags highlight the plight of anorexia in the fashion industry. Roberto’s work in conceptual in nature and has garnered the attention of the international art market. Also showing will be his Warhol piece highlighting the super rich buying power in the art market.

Additional highlights from ‘MONEY TALKS’ include:

·       Magnus Gjoen’s pieces examining how to change people’s relationships and preconceived notions of objects. Something that is potentially extremely destructive can be made into beautiful yet fragile objects of art. It’s this misconception of beauty that Magnus Gjoen wants us to see in a different light, being it weapons, animals or the human race itself.

·       Carne Griffith’s works made with calligraphy inks, graphite and liquids such as alcohol and tea. His work creates a journey of escapism that focuses on scenes of awe and wonder, projecting a sense of abandonment and inviting the viewer to share and explore this inner realm.

For enthusiasts                  looking to buy their first piece Leontia Reilly, the founder of Leontia Gallery, will be offering private    viewings and consultations to talk through the artwork       whilst sharing industry insight on investing in art.
