re:gen_central recovery space (with Ross Alexander)
As part of: modular 1 (23.7.-1.10.)
With: John Reardon, Valentina Karga, Gianluigi M. Masucci

About

In the two-part project modular the gallery would like to reopen its premises during the summer months and devote itself increasingly to artistic processes and cooperations that are dedicated to the urban and social environment, orientate themselves towards it and include it in the greatest possible openness. Individual modules will gradually emerge and grow (together) over time.

The project re:gen_central recovery space by Ross Alexander marks the beginning.

The temporary installation aims to take up the idea of a public space which can be used by people of all ages for rest and urban recovery by incorporating elements of conceptual art, architecture and sound and light therapy, among others.

In the second part of modular 1 John Reardon is invited to expand on the existing module.

John Reardon is artist-in-residence in the Politics Department, Goldsmiths College, London. His work explores how art is made public and how a public is constituted through art. This is often collaborative and site-specific as it engages with questions of structure and infrastructure that frame, organize, regulate and contain things.

In the further course and within the framework of modular 2, Valentina Karga picks up the thread. The artist lives in Berlin and is a professor at the University of Fine Arts (HFBK) in Hamburg. A large part of her projects promotes engagement and participation, facilitates practices of commoning and deals with sustainability. She works across media and often invites an audience or community to complete the work.

In addition, the series is supported by Gianluigi M. Masucci who is invited to a short residency to continue thinking about the processes set in motion in the gallery and expand them through further reflection and modelling. He will show drawings and excerpts from video documentations of his network, which was created in Naples and unites residents of the city in regular meetings and invites them to think together about more sustainable social structures and to plan and carry out joint performative actions. His artistic practice is also concerned with the question of how public cultural spaces can make social and aesthetic processes and joint participation visible and possible.

The joint development of modules and networks is based on the concept of collaboration. In the course of this the gallery opens its doors this year for a two-part concert series in collaboration with Digital in Berlin. As a platform for a wide variety of formats new opportunities and partnerships are emerging.
