About
Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG) began presenting the work of 20thCentury Master of Fine Art on Royal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans in 2001. Since then, the gallery has become the anchor for superior fine art in the heart of the Big Easy, the go-to destination for both first-timers and experienced collectors alike. MLG offers original and unique works from masters including Warhol, Haring, Francis, Murakami, Chagall, Picasso, and Erté.MLG has also proudly introduced and publishes works by 21stcentury artists including Kondakova, Hallam, Bertho, Fressinier, Lalonde and Deyber.
MLG continues to exhibit the latest works from renowned modern masters. The winter exhibitions highlight - Marc Chagall and Salvador Dalí in a gallery that rivals the finest small museum, exhibiting stunning artworks by many of the greatest artists of the 20thcentury.
Always included in MLG’s major collections and unique works is Russian-born Marc Chagall who rose to artistic maturity in France, and as an early modernist was associated with several major artistic styles. He stands out as one of the most original artists of his age. His dream-based imagery was revered by contemporary Surrealists, but rather than simply joining that movement, he chose to pursue his own. MLG is proud to exhibit “Le Pont Neuf” this painting is part of a series of paintings dedicated to Paris. The series is based on sketches he made during his stay in the city I 1946. Choosing Pont Neuf as its central motif, the composition develops around a series of visions and symbols. Pont Neuf evokes interweaved themes: artistic creation, marital devotion, fecundity, and birth. Around the city of Paris, art, love and life dance in a circle.
The spirit and genius of Salvador Dalí is on display with, “Fantaisie orientale fond de nuages et portail (One thousand and One Nights), this illustration shows the artist’s interpretation of central figures and events in a complex and evolving narrative that may date back in its origins to the 9thcentury. Throughout his career, Dalí executed illustrations for many editions of classical literature. This work offers new and exceptional insight into Dalí’s original and unique relationship with classical and literary tradition, and his constant search for an avant-garde re-interpretation of myths and iconographies.
