This course is an introduction to working with wax as a sculpture material. Learn about working with soft and hard waxes, wax casting, making wax sculpture as a finished product or as a stage towards casting into metals or ceramic slip.
About
Wax is a versatile modelling medium for making sculpture. During this course students will be encouraged to experiment with the different properties of wax, building architecturally and experimenting with different textures as well as casing and assembling components from plaster moulds.
Day one
Learn how to mix up your own modelling wax
Cast waxes into plaster moulds and make up sheet waxes.
Model in hard and soft waxes and learn about their different advantages
Day two
Make plaster moulds for wax casting
Use wax casts as a way of scaling up artworks
Reinforce wax for showing it as a finished product
It would be ideal for participants to bring along ideas, sketch books or small models they would like to make and any reference materials for ideas.
Open to all levels including beginners.
It is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear.
