About

Mixed Messages, is a collaborative exhibition between Susannah Stern and Undine Brod. They met in 2004 through an artist residency at the Makor/Steinhardt Center of the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Throughout the residency and beyond Brod and Stern developed a deep artistic connection. They began informally collaborating over the years through exchanging mail art and working on several ceramic sculptures together. Brod and Stern share an affinity for color, pattern, materials (i.e. clay, fibers, mixed media, etc.), language, animals, and curiosity into the human psyche. Both women have been life-long visual artists born to parents who were also professional artists (in varied disciplines). Each artist was raised in eclectic households among important contemporary artists that affected their artistic leanings from an early age. This past year Brod and Stern decided to formally collaborate together on new work, which will be on view through May 2019.
