Jonikas developed his skills as an artist while travelling all over the world, practicing and focusing on his main interest: Colour.

About

Arturas Jonikas was born on September the 18th 1978 and raised in Klaipeda, Lithuania, the city of Klaipeda, which lies on the shores of the Baltic Sea.

Jonikas developed his skills as an artist while travelling all over the world, practicing and focusing on his main interest: Colour.  He uses vibrant tones, colour and symbols that reflect the object of his focus at the time of painting.   Curved and crooked lines are favoured over standard forms, as well as spiritual aspects that evoke a contemplation of nature, energy and national artefacts. The definition of Jonikas’ line of work is connected to his own experience of life, skill and vision present in all his creative projects.

One of such projects 'Nida Art: Seven Days' curated by Jonikas together with his creative partner, Evaldas Semetulskis,  brings together artists from around the world to realise their creative ideas and share their intellectual thoughts whether in a painting or through sound, poetry or other artistic outlet. This project will take place in Summer 2015, in Nida, Lithuania, a beautiful UNESCO-protected site, which is one of the local spots attracting tourists from around the world and an inspiring location in itself.

The artists shortlisted will take over an artistic dome for one week and share their skills, experience and knowledge with others. A guide will be able to help them with any questions they may have relating to local living, eating and settling in during their one weeks stay in Nida.

Jonikas is a highly pro-active artist and aims to build a globally connected arts community that can benefit from live interactions, experience and ideas. He is also interested in (and working on) expanding his 7 Days Project to other countries such as Spain, Tenerife and some cities in the United Kingdom, with which he has a particular affinity. He welcomes anyone who can and would like to get involved.

Jonikas has further developed his artistic skills while training with professional artists Irma Lescinskaite and Evaldas Semetulskis. After completing his studies he continued to be pro-active and curated and presented his work in a number of exhibitions such as 21 Paintings, Klaipeda, Lithuania.  Here the work of Jonikas and his tutors was displayed on the 21st floor terrace of a building in the third largest city in Lithuania. The combination of the stunning view, individual paintings, audience and great music generated a lively and vibrant buzz.

Jonikas’ solo 2014 show at the Hotel Jurate, in Nida  and a group show at the 'Culture and Communication centre' of Klaipeda, were very successful.

Jonikas is currently working on a new line of paintings inspired by Gaudi and by his travels in Bali and Indonesia
