Millington | Marriott are pleased to present the first solo London exhibition by Norwich based artist Henry Jackson Newcomb.
Now In Colour comes in as the third installment of a five part exhibition series from Millington | Marriott's curator residency at New Gallery London.
The exhibition brings together a collection of old and new sculptural work, the introduction of new works within Now In Colour represents a pivotal phase in Newcomb's practice.
Newcomb's work playfully manipulates the relationships and reactions between objects and materials. Often the use of humour is incorporated between object, language, and its position as an art piece creating alternative relationships to its viewer.
Over the previous two years an intensively limiting and personal monotone vocabulary was constructed. This exhibition delivers the introduction of colour. The development for the show has revealed an underlying current that has been subdued in the artists work; through learning this new language Newcomb has produced a series of new sculptural works that sit in conjunction with previous pieces and demonstrate the introduction of colour to his practice.
Newcomb's practice automates a dynamic range of disciplines, often bending ideas through different resources to try and find the limitations of a material or concept. Now In Colour acknowledges his interest in large sculptural works and reveals the ways in which colour has always been buried within his work, almost unnoticed before now, as the colour limit is being released.
