Mileus in Focus

About

The milieus in the exhibition title refers to the different environments that women in contemporary society encounter and are expected to negotiate. As multi-taskers women maintain a delicate balance between their roles as providers, partners and mothers operating within and between the constantly shifting parameters of the work place, school, and home. Women artists share these concerns with the additional challenge of carving the time and space necessary to fulfil their role as artists. The work in the exhibition is the culmination of focussed enquiry, precious time spent in the studio milieu where the artists, disengaged from the world, have single mindedly pursued the processes of reflection and research, and responded emotively and visually to their chosen milieu.
