Miles Hall, visiting Plymouth College of Art for the week from l’Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts, will give an artist’s talk discussing his painting practice and work that engages colour in spacial and sensory relationships.

About

Miles Hall is an Australian painter, living and working in Paris. He trained at Queensland College of Art and at l’Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Montpellier, where he now lectures in Painting and Drawing. His works can be found in major international collections including Artbank, University of Queensland Art Museum, l’Ecole des Beaux Arts de Montpellier and Shandong University. Recent exhibitions include The Dreams our Stuff is Made of, Verge Gallery, University of Sydney and Solid Liquid States, Jan Manton Art, Brisbane

Approaching paintings as material events constructed to employ colour, his work is highly responsive to site and space. His practice incorporates ideas of drawing and sculpture to intensify gesture, surface and scale.

‘Painting is a privileged site of investigation where colour operates as a material, physical phenomenon. I try to evoke both a visual and haptic response from the viewer. My paintings are not images, they are things’
