Event map

The work of the Czech painter Milan Houser (1971) is characterised by experimental painting methods, where he prefers non-figurative, non-illusive paintings.

About

In his current exhibition at the DSC Gallery in Prague, he brings ten new works under the title Melancholy. It is again a clash of visual "civilizations" - layered nitrocellulose varnishes, chemical plating, flame-burning, chrome plating and cracks in the cooling of this pictorial organism. These are a multitude of monochrome canvases ranging from blood cadmium tones to brooding silvery blacks (á 210 x 140 cm, 2024). They create a melancholic (post-humanist) feeling or an intense dystopian atmosphere, revealing the reflective, battered bodies of the paintings with the artist's 'torture' of fire and the aging of cracked surfaces as the painted matter gradually solidifies (entropy).
