About

For “Mies in Mind”, Fernando Bryce created a small series entitled Mies 24/34 which depicts Mies`s contradictory political and architectural position, featuring his design for the Rosa Luxemburg Memorial as well as the design for the German Pavillion of the Expo in 1934.

Over the past two decades he has produced a vast corpus of drawings that forge new forms of representation of historical memory. His method, which he early defined with a dose of humor as “mimetic analysis”, is based on the careful copy of official documents, press images, political propaganda, advertisements and images from art history, so as to form large series of ink drawings that focus on power relations and their mediatization in twentieth-century history.

In Alex Schweder’s performative practice of architecture, the term ‘renovation’ extends beyond physical changes to buildings to include transformations to the people who use them. Schweder used the Mies van der Rohe House to encounter how his enactment of ‘architect’ follows divergent urges. His work is part of the Mies Goes Future project at the Mies van der Rohe Haus.

Mies Goes Future is designed as a long-term study in which artists, architects, art and architecture historians are invited to help shape the future of the Mies van der Rohe House as an institution. In different formats, such as interviews, speeches, sketches of the future, photographs or annotated drawings, the connection to the work of the architect Mies van der Rohe as a source of inspiration will be made clear.
The exhibition is curated by Esenija Bannan.
