We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Michele Fletcher at our Newcastle gallery.

About

Michele Fletcher's current work, whilst rooted in the genre of landscape, sits outside nature. With a focus on a loss of human connection to the natural world - in effect alterity and nature, she is mining whatever vestiges are left of the romantic notion of the sublime in contemporary painting. Michele Fletcher graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design in 2007, and also studied at Goldsmiths College. She has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions in London and group exhibitions in London, Minneapolis and Milton Keynes. In 2010 she was awarded the Fringe Mk Painting Prize, and in 2006 the Marmite Painting Prize. Her work has been featured in The Guardian, The Times and Elle magazine, and is held in public and private collections including the University of the Arts, Ernst & Young, and Barts Hospital, London. Fletcher is from Canada, but lives in works in London. This exhibition is open to the public from 26 March 2012 to 4 May 2012 at Opus Fine Art, Milburn House, Dean Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 1NR.
